Хороший сериал, пиздетс какой-то, примерно так можно охарактеризовать сериал Корни/Roots, который я выкопала в фильмографии Порногерцога (Реге Пейдж). Но Порногерцог лишь один из целой толпы отличных актеров, затесавшихся в эту без преувеличения душераздирающую семейную сагу, растянувшуюся на несколько поколений. Сериал основан на романе Алекса Хейли, который в его основу положил историю своей семьи. Точнее, ее обрывки, поскольку его предки были рaбaми. В начале каждой серии честно предупреждают, что сериал не стоит смотреть детям и людям с неустойчивой психикой. Зря я не поверила.
История начинается в 1760 году в Гамбии, где родился мальчик Кунта Кинте, принадлежавший к народности мандинка. Семья Кунты враждует с другой семьей, которая зарабатывает, выкрадывая и продавая своих земляков европейцам. Так Кунта попадает на корабль рабовладельцев и оказывается в Вирджинии, где его покупает владелец табачной плантации. Он тяжело переносит неволю и не хочет забывать традиции своего народа, потому ему намного тяжелее тех, кто смирился.
Повествование охватывает большой промежуток времени вплоть до окончания войны Севера и Юга и рассказывает о нескольких поколениях семьи. Оторваться от сериала невозможно, но мне приходилось ставить на паузу, чтобы продышаться, давно не смотрела ничего настолько тяжелого и угнетающего. Персонажи очень яркие, и всем ужасно сочувствуешь и переживаешь. Нормальных белых в сериале в принципе нет (за одним исключением). Даже те, кто кажутся нормальными, в итоге оказываются утырками.
В сериале есть Джеймс Пьюрфой (гнусный), Мэттью Гуд (божественно красивый), Анна Пакуин (милая), Лоренс Фишборн (дуся), Малачи Кирби (шикарный чувак), Форест Уитакер (как всегда, жжот напалмом), Джонатан Рис-Майерс (вообще жжот семимеровым, дайте лопату) и, собственно, Реге Пейдж. Плюньте в глаз тем, кто говорит, что он не умеет играть, все он умеет.
Есть еще сеириал 1977 года по тому же роману, но, судя по описанию, многие моменты в нем поданы более мягко, чем в новом.
