В год панголин сжирает примерно 70 млн. термитов и муравьев, выполняя полезную функцию регуляции их численности. Чтобы муравьи не кусали его за всякое важное, панголин умеет закрывать нос и уши на время жранья. Зубов у него нет, зато у некоторых видов (всего их 8) есть что-то вроде зубов в желудке. Жрут они с помощью языка, как муравьеды, причем этот язык достигает 40 см. У панголинов наибольшее количество позвонков из всех животных.
Самцы у панголинов вдвое больше самок, для которых размер имеет значение: чем самец больше, тем выше его шансы у тёток. За понравившуюся тётку панголины дерутся.
Увидев вожделенных две полоски, панголины поступают по-разному, как человеки: одни немедленно скрываются в голубой дали, другие остаются с теткой, по крайней мере, пока дите не подрастет и не затвердеет, они рождаются мяконькие и по одному.
