В 15 лет, с целью укрепления международных свяей, как это всегда было в то время, ее выдали замуж за Этельреда Неразумного, одного из самых позорных монархов в истории Британии. Впрочем, тогда еще никто не знал, как эпично он обосрется.
У короля было 12 детей от прежней жены, причем старшему было столько же, как Эмме. Король относится к ней мерзко, никакой власти у нее нет, в стране она чужачка, наследников от нее не требуется, уже есть от прежней жены. Правда, чтобы заткнуть рот Нормандии, Этельред пришлось ее короновать. В книге Эмма показана, как молодая женщина, полная всяческих достоинств, добродетельная и исполненная чувства долга (чтоб читатель не подох от скуки, автор придумала ей романчик). В противовес ей – другой женский персонаж, леди Эльфгифа, дочь могущественного элдормена и тоже историческая личность. Она, кстати, лично у меня вызывала намного больше симпатий.
Асисяя в книгах почти нет. Есть отношения королевы и короля, ее попытки хоть как-то руководить своей судьбой (у нее действительно практически не было власти) и судьбой своих детей, попытки объяснить, почему Этельред вел себя, как тупко, ужасно интересная история Эльфгифы, бесконечные набеги датчан, битвы и отношения короля с собственными подрощенными детьми.
Третью книгу автор обещает в этом году. А там же самое интересное! Да, все спойлеры в википедии, но это просто сухие факты. С нетерпением буду ждать.
