Это очень честная книга. Все рано или поздно, даже самые упоротые оптимисты, начинают догадываться, что жизнь устроена как-то нехорошо. Что дети вырастают и уходят. И тогда выясняется, как по-разному эти взрослые дети и их родители смотрят на одни и те же вещи, включая детство этого самого ребенка. Родителям кажется, что все было хорошо, а детям – что их сатрапили, тиранили и не понимали. Что в старости, даже за вычетом болезней, очень мало хорошего. Так зачем об этом писать? Что за Америку открывает автор?
На самом деле у Страут все книги такие упаднические. Но парадоксально – дающие надежду. Спасибо ей за это.
А по книге снят сериал, где Оливию сыграла Фрэнсис МакДорманд. И это наверняка прекрасно, надо посмотреть.
