Интеллигентные девицы Шлегель знакомятся (фукака) с буржуями-промышленниками, представителями новой аристократии. Младшую приглашают погостить в поместье буржуев, Говардс Енд. Одержимая всякими социальными идеями, она также сводит знакомство с пролетариями и загорается идеей им как-то покровительствовать, используя связи с буржуями. Все стороны активно сопротивляются, но девица хочет наносить пользу. Тем временем старшая сестра начинает усиленно дружить с буржуйской женой.
Очевидно социальный посыл книги создатели сериала почти похерили и хорошо. Получилась симпатичная костюмная драма о дружбе, любви и дури. За юмор в основном отвечает Алекс Лоутер, играющий братца-ипохондрика. В первый раз в жизни мне понравился Мэттью Макфедиен, из которого вышел прекрасный цинично-отстраненный буржуй. Хейли Атвелл, как всегда, милая. Но что самое поразительное – Джулия Ормонд тут не противная!! А ещё это очень красиво: природы, старинный особняк и платьячки со шляпками.
