Я не люблю читать о войнах, но иногда делаю исключение. Книга Себастиана Фолкса “И пели птицы” стала классикой едва вышла, ее даже включили в школьную программу некоторых стран. Почему-то считается, что о бессмысленности войны лучше всех писал Хэмингуэй. Когда я читала “Прощай, оружие”, мне хотелось запулить книгой в автора. Но Фолкс оставил совсем другие впечатления.
Собственно, всю рецензию можно уместить в слове “душераздирающе”. Даже не знаю, что тут самое страшное. То, как неприглядно, отвратительно и бессмысленно показана смерть на войне? Описание военного быта? То, что люди не хотят победить, они хотят просто выдержать? Одиночество после смерти товарищей? Контраст между мирной жизнью, где всем, кажется, все равно, и возвращением на войну?
