Допустим, Балто точно было пофиг. Но не пофиг было человеку, который вырастил не только Балто, но и Тóго, чье имя осталось в тени. Леонард Сеппала был известен на весь север своим питомником ездовых собак. Он был также тренером и кинологом. Наибольшую и самую опасную часть пути (425 км), который проделали несколько упряжек, прошел как раз сам Сеппала на Того, которому в то время было 12 лет, почтенный возраст для ездовой собаки.
1925 год. На Аляске дифтерия. Доставить сыворотку нельзя ничем: ни самолетом, ни поездом, ни автомобилем. Темпеатура 50-60 радусов мороза. Решено доставить сыворотку на собаках. Нужно пройти более 600 миль, потому упряжки будут меняться. Параллельно ведется повествование о детстве Тóго. И это настощий гимн этой необычной собаке. В детстве это был сущий сотона, с которым Сеппала ничего не мог поделать. Тóго был инициативным, самомстоятельным, находчивым и очень быстрым. Побившись над ним и даже попытавшись продать, заводчик понимает, что Тóго – идеальный вожак. Хотя сам мелкий, толстожопый голубоглазый песик неоднократно на это намекал, устроившись впереди упряжки.
Часть с детством Тóго удивительно милая, добрая и ужасно смешная. Каждый собачник увидит знакомый его сердцу щенячий трындец и умилится. Часть с гонкой нервная, напряженная, но снятая без пафоса и драмы-драмы. Собаки на экране почти уделывают как всегда крутого Уиллема Дефо.
Фильм снят с огромной любовью к собакам и с настоящими животными. Тóго играл хаски Дизель, его потомок.
