Элиф Шафак – писательница турецкого происхождения, родившаяся во Франции. Впрочем, корни ее позвали, и училась она в Анкаре. Пишет на турецком и английском. Каждый раз, беря ее книгу, я надеюсь испытать восторг, потому что она часто пишет о Турции и Стамбуле, и каждый раз испытываю другие чувства.
“Три дочери Евы”.
День у героини по имени Пери не задался. Она торчит в пробке по дороге на прием в стамбульском особняке, когда ее сумку крадет бродяга. Неожиданно для себя самой Пери ломится за ним, потому что в кошельке была дорогая ей фотография: она сама, две ее подруги и профессор философии из колледжа, где она училась. Да, Пери, девушка из простой стамбульской семьи училась в Оксфорде. В ее семье бесконечно ругались: мать была упоротой фанатичкой, а отец атеистом. Пери же выросла меж двух огней, и это определило ее характер: вечно рефлексирующая, нерешительная, не знающая, какую сторону принять, унылая, пассивная. На семинар к профессору Азуру она пришла в поисках ответов, но не нашла их, предпочтя снова болтаться, как говно в проруби. Что рассмотрел в девушке, которую подруги называли Мышкой, профессор – неизвестно. Всю книгу героиня жует сопли, убиваясь от вечного чувства вины (травма детства) и ненависти к себе. Когда же приходит время решительных действий, она привычно уходит в тень, засрав человеку жизнь. Единственный решительный поступок она совершает в конце. И тот идиотский.
“Ученик архитектора”.
У Сулеймана Великолепного был весьма обширный зверинец. Однажды ему в подарок индийский правитель прислал белого слона, а точнее слоненка. Слоненок едва не погиб в пути, но за ним трогательно ухаживал погонщик, мальчик-индус. Мальчик почему-то не говорил ни на одном индийском диалекте, зато говорил на турецком. Так началось это удивительное приключение длинною в жизнь. Мальчик и слон росли вместе, участвовали в войнах и походах, а позже помогали Синану строить мечети и мосты, когда мальчик стал его учеником.
Автор, конечно, фантазирует почём зря. Историчности в романе, считай, никакой, сплошные приключения с редкими вкраплениями исторических фактов.
Читается интересно, но как-то грустно. И ещё у автора вышел на диво противный Стамбул.
“Честь”.
Однажды на востоке Турции, в семье, где и так были одни девочки, родились девочки-близнецы. Мать назвала их на курдском: Судьба и Достаточно. Однажды в их деревушку приехал молодой парень из Стамбула и влюбился в одну из них. Одна из сестер вышла за него замуж и уехала сначала в Стамбул, а потом в Лондон. Кажется, что никакой интриги нет, и уже на первых страницах автор рассказывает о том что старший сын Пимби, которого она называла “мой султан”, убил ее за то, что она запятнала семейную честь. Но не все так просто. Кроме того, еще есть история родителей близнецов, история придурошного мужа Пимби и истории ее детей.
Ай автор, ай шайтан! Все кишки вынула и все перевернула с ног на голову, когда я со злости уже чуть не бросила читать с криком “дикий народ, дикие нравы”. Впрочем, меня все равно здорово выбесили многие моменты. Ну и грустно, очень грустно. Ведь судя по новостям из Турции, такие истории случаются до сих пор. Эта книга автора, несмотря на бесеж, понравилась больше всех. “40 правил любви” бросила.
