Питер Лоуренс – политик, который вылез из низов и сделал себя сам. Он становится министром юстиции, но метит выше. Пипл его обожает за то, что он не пытается быть милым и режет правду-матку. Такой у него фирменный стиль. Он только что выиграл суд с журналисткой, которую после этого сразу уволили. Но она уверена в своей правоте, а адвокат министра – в его виновности. У министра есть жена и две дочери, которых пресса полощет почем зря, но ему все, как с гуся вода. Но тут у него обнаруживается еще одна дочь, о существовании которой он не знал.
В общем-то ничего нового: все политики мерзкие уроды, даже те, которые кажутся милыми. Но следить за тем, как министр, которого играет Хью Лори, выкручивается и оборачивает все в свою пользу, не теряя присутствия духа, интересно. Хью Лори хорош и харизматичен, а Хелен Маккрори сделала блефароплатику, причем очень хорошо. По жанру это драма, но не драмища.
