В то время уже развивался дородовой уход, который зачастую осуществлялся дома, а также обычным делом были роды на дому, потому акушерки все время ездили на выезды, притом на велосипедах.
В книге множество интересных историй, счастливых и трагичных, особенностей быта и медицинского ухода того времени. Есть еще две книги.
В 2012 году вышел 1 сезон сериала “Вызовите акушерку” (Call the Midwife). Уорт не успела его увидеть, но вклад в него сделала, в частности, выбрала актрису на роль Чамми. Три первых сезона основаны на книгах. Далее проект стал народным. Акушерки и медсестры, работавшие в то время, начали присылать свои воспоминания. Одна серия – одна история, но сами акушерки и монахини – персонажи сквозные.
В основном, конечно, сериал очень милый и жизнеутверждающий, но есть и грустные истории. Я посмотрела два сезона, потом серии с переводом закончились. Теперь уже перевели все 7 сезонов, смотрю четвертый, инджой!
