По словам современников, город был великолепен, и этому охотно веришь, глядя на остатки мраморной мостовой. Сейчас его не менее великолепные развалки лежат прямо рядом с дорогой Милас-Ятаган (добраться можно из Бодрума или Мармариса).
На руинах предприимчивые местные жители выстроили турецкое село Эскихисар (старая крепость), а потом забросили его. Поэтому в наши дни Стратоникея – это помесь абандона с античными развалками, чрезвычайно атмосферное место.
