И тут же на фоне того же Босфора (а на его фоне все красивое) влюбляется в учительницу дочерей дяди, недавно приехавшую из Парижа. Правда, у учительницы какие-то отношения с американским журналистом. Но то такое, потому что начинается война и геноцид армян, тут уже не до любовных разборок.
Атмосфера первой половины фильма со Стамбулом начала 20 века дивно хороша. Далее режиссер явно поставил своей задачей довести зрителя до припадка, потому использует для этого все возможные, даже самые жестокие приемы, а героев мучает просто безмерно, иногда перегибая палку и с драмой, и с мелодрамой.
Как бы то ни было, но историки похвалили фильм за историческую достоверность.
В фильме есть не противный Кристиан Бейл (герой у него на редкость благородный), очень красивый Оскар Айзек и красивые же тетки: Шарлотта ле Бон и Анджела Сарафян.
