В 2004 году пьесу экранизировали, пытаясь как-то сместить акценты.
Чтобы сместить эти самые акценты в начале рассказывают, как евреев щемили повсюду, даже в Венеции, запрещая им заниматься ремеслом и одновременно презирая за то, что дают деньги в долг. Затем идет в принципе то же, что и в пьесе: Шейлок одалживает денег купцу Антонио, чтобы тот покрыл долги своего френда Бассано, корабли Антонио тонут, и гнусный Шейлок требует не только бабло, но и кусок мяса Антонио. В конце самый справедливый суд в мире оставляет Шейлока фактически без штанов, да еще и насильно заставлет креститься.
Ну типа режиссер постарался показать антисемитизм и несправедливое отношение, но пьесу-то не изменишь. Я понимаю, что время такое было, Шекспир писал на актуальные темы и на потеху толпе, но некоторые вещи сейчас уже смотреть невозможно. Так что на выходе получилось то же самое: благородный и страдающий Антонио (его благородно изображает Джереми Айронс) и кровожадный Шейлок, которого изображает Аль Пачино. Венеция, платьюшки, красота и вот это вот все. Есть еще гнусный Джозеф Файнс.
