  5. What do pop star Lily Allen, Olympic gold medal-winning diver Jack Laugher, tennis player Nick Kyrgios and 25-year-old Bonnie Blue from
Nottingham, who has filmed herself having sex with hundreds
of 18-year-old students (and sometimes their dads,
    too), all have in common?

Yes, you guessed it. They are all ‘creatives’ on OnlyFans,
the adults-only online content provider founded in 2016 by a young Essex
businessman called Tim Stokely, which is now one of the most visited (and lucrative)
    websites in the world.

Just last month, Lily Allen caused a stir by revealing that she makes more money
charging $10 (£8) – the site works in dollars –
for pictures of her feet on her OnlyFans account labelled ‘La Dolca Feeta’ than she does from her 7.5million monthly listeners on Spotify.

But Lily’s content is tame in comparison to
much of the content on the site, the sort company execs refer to as
‘spicy’. Everything from cheeky shots of bottoms peeking out of bubble baths, blondes stirring vats of steaming pasta
in G-strings, hot men waxing cars in their pants, right through
the sex spectrum to twosomes, threesomes, sixsomes and
    hardcore pornographic videos.

But also because, thanks to the allure of OnlyFans and the astonishing sums that a teeny number of the platform’s
4.1million creatives are raking in, more and more young women (and it
is mostly young women) who would never have considered it before
are suddenly happy to join in and sell photos of, well, pretty
much anything, to pay rent, settle credit card bills or splash out on nice holidays.
Basically, a flashier life all round.

‘We feel empowered. We have agency. It’s completely up to me if I take my top off or not,’ says
one 21-year-old girl, who joined a year ago and makes enough in a week to cover a year’s student rent at Sheffield University
and prefers not to give her name.

‘And I am happy to do it because for once I make the rules,
in the safety of my home and they’re paying me to do
it. It’s a mug’s game, but I am not the mug.’

For the benefit of those readers who are not among the site’s 305million users, OnlyFans offers
creators a platform where they can charge their fans a
subscription fee ranging from $4.99 to $49.99 a month to look at
their content, contact them (or more often access their ‘chatter’ – more of which later)
and access often more explicit, personalised, ‘à la carte’
    content through ‘tips’.

OnlyFans model Bonnie Blue has filmed herself having sex with hundreds of 18-year-olds

Rapper Cardi B is said to make $9million (£7.1million) a month from the site

Actress Bella Thorne, a former Disney child star, made a record-breaking $1million (£800,000) in 24 hours

‘Pay $10 to unlock this video’. ‘Click here for more spicy content’.
‘The more you pay, the more you see’. You get the gist.

In 2023, the site generated a record $6.6billion (£5.2billion), of which the company
takes a straight 20 per cent – much less than YouTube – and
the rest goes to the ‘performers’.

It is unlike Instagram or other social media sites in that nothing is suggested – instead,
you have to search for, and then subscribe to, individual accounts to
see much more than profile pictures.

Which is a good thing, because while some of the content is anodyne, much is
highly sexual and many people on the site can bob freely from one to another.
Perhaps a cookery hack one day, modelling new boots the next, then graduate to a few cheeky cleavage and
bikini shots and more, as the money becomes more tempting.

Every week, it seems, we hear of someone who has made millions.

Last month it was announced that American influencer Corinna Kopf
had retired from the site, aged 28, after making
$67million (£53million). In her best month, she reportedly earned more than $2million (£1.6million).

Rapper Cardi B is said to earn more than $9million (£7.1million) a month from the site.

Meanwhile, Darcie Rattles was an out-of-work bricklayer with
£6,000 in credit card bills and debts when she joined OnlyFans in 2022.

‘I was thinking: how the hell am I going to get to next week?
How am I going to pay my credit cards?’ she says in an online interview.

‘I’m young, I’ve got a good body and I’ve got a lot of followers.
It is what any girl would turn to. It had been in the back of
mind for two years, but then I did it.’

Within two days of launching, she had earned enough to pay
off her debts. Today, Darcie, who comes across as likeable, down-to-earth and has no
qualms about what she shares, claims to earn more than £250,
    000 a year.

Pop singer Lily Allen has discovered a niche
    market…

… she sells pictures of her feet for £8 and makes more
money from her account labelled ‘La Dolca Feeta’ than she does from her 7.5million monthly listeners on Spotify

‘It doesn’t matter to me whether I get my feet out, or my other bits out,’
    she says.

Though it does tend to be the other bits, because Darcie’s content promises very few clothes
and, for those who pay extra, ‘a naughty
side to me you’ve never seen before’.

But even Darcie seems like the girl next door compared to
Lily Phillips, a British model who earned £2,000 in her first 24 hours
on the site and recently went viral for sleeping with 101
men over a 14-hour period. She has since announced she is planning to
set a record of having sex with 1,000 men in 24 hours.

And Bonnie Blue, a beautiful blonde with a golden tan and astonishingly white teeth, who has worked her way round Derby, Nottingham, Cancun and
    Australia, sleeping with university students.

On one night during Nottingham Trent freshers’ week – after publicising her stunt
by wearing a sandwich board that read: ‘Bonk me for free and let me film it’ – she had boys
queuing up from 6pm until five in the morning.

‘I got through them all,’ she said proudly in one interview in which she reminds
us that, thanks to OnlyFans, she has already banked more than £3
million – for which she was applauded by her followers for
    her entrepreneurship.

But all that is chicken feed when you consider the £370 million dividend that company
    owner paid himself last year.

And these days that’s Leonid Radvinsky, who bought a majority stake
from Tim Stokely in 2018, two years after he started the business with the help of a loan from his
    father.

It was the Covid-era lockdowns that thrust OnlyFans into the stratosphere.
Everyone shut up at home, nothing to do. In 2020,
it generated revenues of $2.23billion (£1.8billion). By 2021, it was up to $4.8billion (£3.8billion).

There was a brief hiatus in October of that year when they tried banning sexually explicit content
but that lasted about ten minutes before they switched back.

There have been plenty of scandals along the way. A BBC investigation back in 2021 revealed that children were not just accessing the material online
by foxing the age verification process but were
also selling explicit videos on the website.

Leah, 17, had used a fake driving licence to set up an OnlyFans account where she made £5,000 uploading revealing videos of herself.

There have also been claims of OnlyFans creators using public gyms
and spaces to make adult content.

Recently there has been more concerns that the company is not doing enough to protect minors.

OnlyFans, however, prefers to portray itself as a force for good, with supporters arguing
that it empowers people by allowing them to sell content – over which they have full control – directly to consumers.
And many of the Gen Z generation seem to agree.
‘It’s fine. It’s empowering. It’s taking control,’ they cry,
pointing out that the site has loads of moderators and a tight security system to ensure that all users are over 18.

And they say, anyway, that OnlyFans isn’t just about sex.

Of course, they’re right. It has long been awash with pneumatic reality TV stars and the likes of
Lottie Moss, Kerry Katona and Katie Price, who are happy to tease their
followers with a few cheeky peeks in skimpy bikinis.

I spend an afternoon browsing the site and, while it is not all ‘spicy’ content as the
company executives like to call it, everything is dripping with sauce
    and promise.

The big lips, the push-up bras, even the way a pretty Spanish chef is holding her paella pan. Company executives
have been pushing hard to make the platform more mainstream – offering
contracts and financial incentives to encourage musicians, sports stars, cooks, anyone really, to come on and share a bit of exclusive – or niche – content.

Really, anything that people will pay to look at – glimpses backstage at concerts.

    Celebrities in the bath.

During the 2024 Olympic Games, a raft of athletes jumped
on the OnlyFans bandwagon to share pictures of their beautifully toned
    bodies.

Along with Jack Laugher, Team NZ rower Robbie Manson uses the site to share ‘exclusive content that tastefully explores the boundaries, including
artistic portrayals of nudity’ for $14.99 a month.
    British speedskater

Olympic diver Jack Laugher is among a number of sports stars using OnlyFans

Reality TV star Kerry Katona has also teased followers with content

Lottie Moss  has also taken to the adults-only online content provider that was founded in 2016
and is used by 4.1 million creatives

Elise Christie turned to the site when she found herself in financial difficulties.

All of which seems to be working well for them, but it can be rather murkier
    for others.

Not least because, in less than a decade, OnlyFans has spawned an entire support
industry of ‘sugar daddies’ who support performers financially and ‘chatters’ who
work for them. ‘Sugar daddies’ tend to be older male businessmen who ‘invest’ in promising creatives.
In what are referred to rather murkily as ‘mutually beneficial deals’, they invest in branding
and marketing and videography to boost traffic.

Chatters are different. For the real stars, the traffic is so high and the interaction with followers so demanding that if they had to do it all themselves,
there’s no way they would ever have time to put their pyjamas back
    on.

So ‘chatters’ – a sort of online 21st-century Cyrano de Bergerac – do that
for them. Keeping them engaged, online, needy and most of all, spending,
spending, spending for more and more content.

Which means, of course, that the whole thing is a total
scam. The poor daft subscriber thinks he’s really making a connection with ‘Racy
Tracey from Twickenham’, but is more likely chatting to a middle-aged father
    of three from the Philippines.

He will have learnt everything about Tracey – her favourite colour, favourite animal and favourite position – have studied a script that reminds him ‘it’s all about selling, selling, selling’, and
will be being paid $4 an hour for his efforts.
Or the subscriber could just be talking to
an AI bot – which perhaps is more appealing.

A year after split, I’ve had a baby and got engaged, writes Mother
    Pukka ANNA WHITEHOUSE

Chatters can be dangerous. As Alanya, a paralegal from
Scotland, discovered when she learned that one of her most enthusiastic followers had
travelled to her home town to find her, encouraged by her chatter.

‘My chatter told him that I loved him. I would never, ever
    have said that,’ she said.

But, sadly, chatters, sugar daddies and stalkers
are not a problem for most creatives. Almost all of whom are still struggling to make any proper money,
however many clothes they take off.

They will never know the clout of Cardi B, or Lily Allen, or former Disney child star Bella Thorne, who famously made a
record- breaking $1million (£800,000) in 24 hours when she joined in August 2020.
(Though initially there was some confusion as to whether she would be appearing nude or not.
She did not – which caused quite a rumpus.)

Because, unlike celebrities who can redirect their existing social media followers to their OnlyFans accounts, most
people find it hard to grab attention without doing something,
    well, grabby.

So, despite all the tales of golden riches, the average earnings of an OnlyFans creative is still just
$150 (£118) a month and, with the market now
so flooded, is only likely to go one way.

And it’s easy to see how, if you’re a young woman who
has convinced yourself that you’re in control, empowered and mistress of your own destiny, you
could find yourself moving inevitably and inexorably up (or perhaps down) the scale, revealing more and more.

Until, before you know it, like Bonnie Blue and Lily Phillips,
you’ve kept nothing back for yourself.

She channeled both the late Purple Rain hitmaker and his protégée turned lover, Mexican model Patricia ‘Apollonia’ Kotero.

While roleplaying Apollonia, the Single Ladies hitmaker sizzled in a plunging black lace bustier under an open tuxedo jacket,
before taking it off and posing in nothing but metallic purple gloves.

Meanwhile her version of Prince consisted of a purple coat with a white
frilly shirt, black lace underwear, and

What’s YOUR take on Beyonce’s Halloween costume?

    Comment now
It is not clear when Apollonia’s relationship with Prince began or ended
as he was dating another one of the stars of Purple Rain during the making of the film,
    Susan Moonsie.

Prince and Beyonce famously joined forces
onstage at the 2004 Grammy Awards, performing a medley that
included his iconic 1984 single Purple Rain.

Their duet also included her fan favorite number Crazy In Love, which saw him accompany her on the electric guitar.

Afterwards, Prince gave an interview in which he
shared his appraisal of Beyonce’s musical abilities when they worked together.

‘I was really curious as to how much she knew musically, and I was really pleased to find out that she knew
a lot about scales – Mixolydian scales and Egyptian styles and
different things like that,’ he said.

‘And I was just trying to show her some chords on the piano
and help her to respect the fact that if she learns piano à la Aretha Franklin and Ray
Charles and things like that, the sky’s the limit as
to what she could do, ’cause she’s so very talented.’

Prince died of an accidental overdose in 2016 at the age of just 57.

Earlier this year Beyonce posted a heartwarming Instagram montage of herself wearing a t-shirt promoting Prince on what would have been his
    66th birthday.

  8. Australian politicians are almost always opting to fly with Qantas on taxpayer-funded trips, despite Virgin offering cheaper tickets.

Federal MPs flew with the national carrier for 80 per cent of work trips last year despite it not always being the cheapest
route, according to travel data provided to the government.

While politicians and their staffers are required to book the cheapest flight,
it also has to be the most efficient, with Qantas offering the most routes between major cities.

MPs are banned from accruing frequent flyer points on taxpayer-funded trips like ordinary
Aussies can, but they can can receive lifetime
status credits, which allows access to airport lounges and flight upgrades.

‘How else can one explain the extraordinary dominance of Qantas in securing
bookings by parliamentarians and their staff?’ Myriam
Robin wrote in an opinion piece for the Australian Financial Review.

‘There’s nothing like accruing status credits on someone
    else’s dime.’

Transport Minister Catherine King has since committed to a review of flight bookings by government officials which
will be conducted by the Department of Finance this year, despite there being just two months left of 2024.

Politicians’ preference for Qantas may also be put down to the airline’s exclusive invite-only ‘Chairman’s Lounge’.

    EXCLUSIVE

    The Flying Kanga-RORT – why you’re footing
the bill as airlines wine and dine pollies in VIP club

Daily Mail Australia in August revealed that nearly every single federal politician in the country has
accepted free membership of the club.

Qantas and the Albanese government have both denied the airline enjoys
any disproportionate level of influence over the country’s political classes.

A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers – in both the House of
Representatives and the Senate – revealed almost 93 per cent of the nation’s leaders have been ‘gifted’ membership to the lavish, all-inclusive lounge.

The high profile ranks of government giftees include Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as well as every member of
his 22-person Cabinet, his seven-person Outer Ministry and all 12 assistant ministers.

While most politicians declared their Qantas’ privileges as a ‘gift’, Labor MP Marion Scrymgour listed her membership as her ‘Chairman Lounge entitlement’.

Daily Mail Australia in August revealed that nearly every single federal
politician in the country has accepted free membership
    of Qantas’ exclusive Chairman’s Lounge.

And it’s not just politicians on the take, with more than 60 MPs – including Marles, Chalmers, King, Bill Shorten, Zali Steggall and Tanya Plibersek – disclosing their spouses
have also been granted unfettered, independent access to Qantas’ luxurious members only lounge.

Often touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’, membership to
the Chairman’s Lounge has long been veiled in secrecy.

Even the entrances to each of the country’s six opulent VIP clubs – in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth airports – are suitably discreet.

Though, once inside, the designer lounges are immediately more ostentatious, with free à la carte fine dining, table service,
a decadent selection of wines and Champagne and a discreet army of dedicated lounge
    attendants.

Membership to the club is ‘priceless’ – it cannot be bought for any amount of money
nor obtained via any amount of frequent flyers points.

Instead, each member is hand-picked and approved by the company’s chief executive and chairman.

  9. The existence of an exclusive hideaway for the country’s movers and shakers where secret deals were done
in private luxury first exploded into the public eye back in 2007.

Back then, the fact that Qantas spent hundreds of thousands of dollars wining and dining the nation’s political elite in ultra-exclusive VIP lounges was relatively unknown.

It was a time before Alan Joyce’s tenure as the CEO of
Qantas had even started, when he was boss of the comparatively lowly
    budget airline, Jetstar.

And unlike Anthony Albanese’s current slide in the polls leading up to an election in next year, the prospects back in 2007 were
    rosy for Labor.

The election that was looming was the ‘Kevin 07’ landslide that would see Kevin Rudd become prime minister and John Howard lose his own seat.

The issue which blew open the ‘guilty secret’ of the Chairman’s Lounge
then wasn’t about a prime minister’s privileges, although John Howard and
Kevin Rudd were certainly both members during their
    terms as PM.

But when broadcaster Steve Price – himself a
long time Chairman’s Lounge member – revealed a politically charged remark made within the club’s hallowed walls,
the cat was out of the bag.

The political revelation – a comment by ex-rock star turned
senator Peter Garrett that Labor would change the policies it campaigned on if it won government
    – did not deter his party from romping in on election day.

In contrast, the scandal currently engulfing Anthony Albanese about
his Chairman’s Lounge membership and that of his ex-wife
Carmel Tebbutt, and their son Nathan could bring down the prime minister.

The exclusive Qantas Chairman’s Lounge (above) has been a well-kept secret for years, but it exploded into
the public conscience in 2007 as the result of
    a political furore

Broadcaster Steve Price revealed he had been a Chairman’s Lounge
member since 2002 during a row before the 2007 election won by
Kevin Rudd which let the cat out of the bag about
    the VIP club

The existence of the lounge was so little known back in 2007 that
in defending his disclosure of Garrett’s remark, Steve Price had to
explain what the private enclave actually was.

In a first person piece he wrote: ‘The Chairman’s Lounge is a
separate frequent flyers lounge away from the crowded
    normal Qantas Club.

‘As its name implies, the people given access to it are
approved by the Qantas chairman, Margaret Jackson.

    ‘I have been a Chairman’s Lounge member since 2002.’

In his opinion piece, Price also revealed TV entertainment
reporter Richard Wilkins was also a member of lounge.

Wilkins had also been inside at the time and was his only witness to the remark Price said Garrett had made.

Other prominent media figures, such as 60 Minutes reporters, actors and performers,
and well-known writers and sports people are said to be
among the lounge’s exclusive membership of around 6000.

Price went on to defend himself for reporting what some claimed was a confidential conversation in a private
place, but which exposed him to criticism over his own membership
for allegedly promoting Qantas on his radio show.

Back in 2007, Alan Joyce (left) was boss of the comparatively lowly budget airline Jetstar, and
then Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon (right) had the power over who made the cut to the Chairman’s Lounge

One observer has described the relationship bet6ween leading politicians such as PM
Anthony Albanese and the former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce (above) as ‘alarmingly
    cosy’

‘Why on earth is Qantas giving a controversial shock jock membership of its Chairman’s Lounge, which is supposedly to enable our elite politicians and business leaders some
privacy from the hoi polloi?’ demanded Crikey reporter Stephen Mayne at the time.

‘The Chairman’s Lounge is meant to be all about discretion and
confidentiality,’ he said, accusing Price of breaking ‘a confidence’.

The following year, before he was succeeded as Qantas CEO by Alan Joyce, Geoff Dixon was the sole gatekeeper of entry into the club’s
    hushed confines.

Qantas Chairman’s Lounge membership was ‘so exclusive that
you have to be personally invited by the airline’s chieftain’, Nine newspapers
    reported in 2008.

‘A marvellous benefit of lounge membership is that the mega
rich and powerful avoid having to mingle with the riffraff who will
    be travelling cattle class.

‘Having said that, members of the ultra-exclusive club have
    included Pauline Hanson.

‘Another lounge member is Brad Cooper, who is currently enjoying
a prolonged exposure to cattle-class in Kirkconnell Correctional Centre.’
(Cooper was the former HIH insurance executive jailed for eight years on fraud and bribery offences).

Membership of the elite lounge is confined to about 6000 Australians including politicians
from both sides, senior public servants, TV stars and actors

The ‘scandal’ currently engulfing Anthony Albanese about his Chairman’s Lounge membership and that of his ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt,
and their son Nathan could bring down the prime minister (above the PM
with partner Jodie Haydon and ex-Qantas CEO Alan Joyce)

The report noted that politicians declaring membership of the lounge ‘which most of their spouses
got too’ in their pecuniary interests that year included Liberal MPs of the day, Philip Ruddock, Bob
    Baldwin and Andrew Southcott.

Labor MPs with lounge privileges included Tanya Plibersek, Bob McMullan, and Sharon Grierson, and Martin Ferguson declared a bottle
of Grange hermitage as a gift from Qantas, as did Liberal, Christopher Pyne.

Asked if all MPs got the captain’s pick from Geoff
Dixon, the airline’s spokesperson  told Nine: ‘We
like to retain a bit of mystery. Membership is by invitation only and it is reviewed periodically.’

Fast forward to today, and nearly every single federal
politician in the country has accepted free membership of the controversial, invitation-only lounge with
one even describing it as an ‘entitlement’.

Qantas and the Albanese government recently denied
the ‘very, very high-end perk’ gives the airline a disproportionate level of influence over the
    country’s politicians.

They were commenting ahead of the launch of the new book The Chairman’s
Lounge by former Australian Financial Review
columnist Joe Aston, which has stirred up the controversy.

A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers – in both Federal Parliament’s House of Representatives and the Senate – revealed
almost 93 per cent of the nation’s leaders have been ‘gifted’ membership to the lavish,
    all-inclusive lounge.

Mr Albanese has defended himself by saying he declared all his benefits in pecuniary interest statements.

At a press conference this week, he repeated that all of
his upgrades ‘have been declared as appropriate. What’s appropriate is transparency.’

Apart from the PM, members include every one of his 22-person Cabinet, his seven-person Outer Ministry
    and all 12 assistant ministers.

lounges offer free à la carte fine dining, table service and a

On the Coalition side of parliament, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, deputy leader David Littleproud and former deputy Barnaby Joyce are also among the swathes of politicians who
have disclosed they have taken up free membership to the contentious club.

Bill Shorten is a member, Tanya Plibersek is still a member and so
    is Teal MP, Zali Steggall.

Last year it was reported that Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb and Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman Joe Longo and some of their deputies are
members of the Chairman’s Lounge despite regulating
    the airline.

Senior public servants in the club included Department of
Prime Minister and Cabinet secretary Glyn Davis, deputy secretaries Nadine Williams,
Liz Hefren-Webb, Rachel Bacon and ambassador to Beijing, Scott Dewar.

Other Qantas freebies bestowed on members include numerous business class
flight upgrades, model Qantas aircrafts, frequent flyer points, and tickets to sporting and entertainment events.

Touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’,
membership to the Chairman’s Lounge is still veiled in secrecy.

Virgin Airlines has its own version of the VIP enclave, the ‘Beyond’ lounge.

Only a handful of federal politicians have relinquished their membership to
the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge in the wake of the furore.

The select few to take a principled stand on the issue
include South Australian senator Barbara Pocock and former Wallabies star turned ACT senator
David Pocock, along with MPs Stephen Bates, Queensland
Green Elizabeth Watson-Brown, and Monique Ryan, a Teal from Victoria.

Geoffrey Watson SC, a former counsel assisting the
Independent Commission Against Corruption and a director of
the Centre for Public Integrity, has implored all politicians and policymakers to follow suit.

‘There are certain positions in life where you cannot take Chairman’s Club membership,’ he
    said.

The 38-year-old singer was recognized by her 49-year-old co-star – who revealed he ‘almost
lost his mind’ due to his diet – during a press conference
for Joker: Folie à Deux at the Venice Film
    Festival on Wednesday.

Joaquin was discussing his personal weight loss for the original
2019 film before praising the Poker Face hitmaker
whose real name is Stefani Germanotta.

He said: ‘Stefani also lost a lot of weight.

The admiration was mutual between the stars as Joaquin plays Arthur Fleck AKA The Joker and Gaga plays Harleen ‘Lee’ Quinzil AKA Harley Quinn .

Gaga told her co-star: ‘I think we transformed into our characters over
a period of time and we continued to hone in every kind of detail.’

The last time that actor Joaquin played The Joker, he
had to drop over forty pounds (three and a half
stone). He went on a diet of lettuce, asparagus and apples which he
said made him almost lose his mind.

Five years later he has returned to the Oscar-winning role again in Joker: Folie a Deux – and says that he
had to lose almost the same amount of weight once more, and is
    never doing it again.

Speaking at the Venice Film Festival he said: ‘I’m not
going to talk through specifics of the diet, because I just think nobody wants to hear
    that.

‘But this time, it felt a bit more complicated just because there was so much dance rehearsal that
we were doing, which I didn’t have last time.

‘It felt a bit more difficult, but it is safe. But you’re right, I’m now 49, I probably shouldn’t do this again. This is probably it for me.’

and apples’ to lose three and a half stone to play The Joker
(Seen left in the film and right at Venice Film Festival on Wednesday)

The last time that actor Joaquin Phoenix played The Joker, Arthur Fleck, he had
to drop three and a half stone – and he has revealed he had
    to do so again

He added: ‘I know I was responsible last time for talking about it,
but it’s difficult to do so.

‘That becomes your obsession because you’re working the entire
time to get to a certain weight.

‘So then you end up talking about it, and then it just sounds like an actor going
on and on about how much weight they lost.

‘By the end of that run I was so sick of myself and angry at myself
for making such a big deal about that part, because you just do
what you’re ****ing supposed to do. So this time I was
like, ‘I’m not going to do that’.’

He then whispered: ‘It was 47 pounds,’ before adding: ‘No, I’m joking.
    I don’t know.’

Co star Lady Gaga, who plays a music therapist at Arkham Asylum,
said: ‘We rehearsed the waltz in the film for two months which kind of
    falls apart.

‘When Joaquin was too hungry we fed him blueberries.’

Phoenix said: ‘Part of the joy for me was to take standards and find a way that was specific to the characters.

‘That was part of what was interesting for us. We
started off with references like Frank Sinatra and
Sammy Davis Jr and we started to emulate that sound.’

Speaking at the Venice Film Festival he said: ‘I’m not going to talk through specifics of the diet, because I
just think nobody wants to hear that’

Five years after the first film, he has returned to the Oscar-winning role again in Joker: Folie a Deux – and
says that he had to lose almost the same amount of weight once more, and is never doing it again (Seen left before filming in 2018 and right after)

‘But this time, it felt a bit more complicated just because there was so much dance rehearsal that we were
doing, which I didn’t have last time,’ Joaquin said of
the weight loss this time round

Joaquin’s weight loss for the first film somewhat ‘obsessed’ with his
weight where he also developed a ‘disorder’ over pounds (Seen left in the first film and right ahead of filming)

He added that his co-star Lady Gaga, real name Stephanie Germanotta ‘wanted to sing live
and I did not. In the end, every part of the recording
    was live.’

Gaga said: ‘The way music is used is to give
characters a way to express themselves because the dialogue is
    not enough.’

She had to forget her professional training: ‘It was about
unlearning technique and forgetting how to breathe.’

Director Todd Phillips said that he felt the pressure after the success of The Joker.

He said: ‘I’m more nervous of this one than the first one.
The first one we were under the radar, this one everyone was writing on the internet about it.’

The Warner Bros film is released on October 4th.

After the release of the first film, Joaquin shut down rumours he only ate an apple a day
to achieve his astonishing weight loss, telling Access Hollywood that he consumed more food than that  — though not much more.

‘It wasn’t an apple a day. No, you’ve also got lettuce and steamed green beans,’ he said of what he
ate in preparation for the role.

The actor previously admitted that ‘you start to go mad when you lose that amount of weight in that amount of time’

While speaking with Access Hollywood, Joaquin explained he consulted with a doctor to ensure he lost weight as safely as possible

Although Joaquin has lost weight for roles before, he admitted that
‘Joker’ director Todd Phillips didn’t make it easy on him.

The Her star recalled how the producer always had the one food item he craved on hand, which made his diet a bit more of
    a struggle.

‘Todd did have these f*****g pretzels that I love.
And he’d just have bags of them in his office!’ he said. ‘And that was difficult.’

Joaquin’s character is wearyingly thin in the film, and he admitted that he had reservations about taking on such a drastic weight loss.

‘It’s a horrible way to live,’ he told the New York Times. ‘I think [the Joker] should be
kind of heavy. Todd was like, ‘I think you should do the real thin person.”

Joaquin previously said his extreme diet helped him prepare for
the role in more ways than one.

‘The first thing for us was the weight loss — I think that’s really what I started with,
‘ he said of working with the film’s director.

‘And, as it turns out, that then affects your psychology.
You start to go mad when you lose that amount of weight in that amount of time.’

  11. Nothing signals the start of winter quite
like the return of the Fair Isle knit. Once considered ‘ugly’ knitwear we’d only pull out from the back of
our wardrobes as an alternative to a Christmas jumper (especially the red-nosed reindeer
kind à la Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones’s Diary) or for a winter sport holiday (specifically for après-ski), the
Fair Isle jumper has now become somewhat of a fashion statement.

The knit is named after the small, eponymous Shetland
Island in Scotland and uses a traditional knitting technique to create those distinctive patterns with multiple colours.
It was brought into vogue by an earlier Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII) in the 1920s, and has remained a casual wardrobe staple for members of the
Royal Family, including Kate Middleton, whose jumper collection includes at least three different Fair Isle designs.

    Kensington Palace

Another fan of the nostalgic knit is Alexa Chung, who recently layered
a Fair Isle vest by Molly Goddard over a light
blue button-down in a snap for Instagram.

The It-girl previously also wore a V-neck vest from Cotswolds-based knitwear brand Cooking Apple, and
sported a chunky Fair Isle crewneck with white, straight-leg jeans, black loafers and an oversized,
black leather blazer to ring in the festive season at private members’ club in London last year.

A host of designers have dropped Fair Isle-inspired knits for AW24, proving the multicoloured jumpers have become a timeless investment.

  12. Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity is at the heart of their
reason for entering Parliament in the first place hear themselves?

In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral reforms that the major parties look set to come together to
    support.

The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy individuals can donate, caps
on the amount candidates can spend in individual electorates to prevent the
equivalent of an arms race, and a $90million limit
on what any party can spend at an election – actually less than the major parties currently spend.

The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds for donations, thus increasing the transparency of who makes political donations in the first
    place.

So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while using their cash to
influence election outcomes – and the extent
to which they can use their wealth at all will be limited.

The bill will further improve transparency by also increasing the speed and frequency that disclosures of donations need to be made.

At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get made – but you only find out the details of who has given what to whom many months later, well after elections are won and lost.

In other words, what is broadly being proposed will result in much greater transparency and far less big money being injected into campaigning by the wealthy.

Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties were ‘running scared’ with the policy and warned
the reform would ‘not stop the rot’

Greens senate leader Larissa Waters (left) fired
a warning shot – saying if it serves only the major parties ‘it’s a
rort, not reform’. Teal independent ACT senator David Pocock
(right) said: ‘What seems to be happening is a major-party stitch-up’

Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party,
as opposed to $16,000 under the current rules, will need
to disclose having done so. And how much they can donate will be capped.

Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed new laws, labeling them a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’ and
    ‘a rort, not a reform’.

They have lost their collective minds after finding out
that Labor’s proposal just might secure the support of the opposition.

I had to double check who was criticising what exactly before
even starting to write this column.

Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these important transparency measures
stamping out the influence of the wealthy must have been proposed by
the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals, in a united crossbench effort to drag the major parties closer to accountability.

    More fool me.

The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system, is being put forward by Labor and is opposed
by a growing cabal of crossbenchers.

It makes you wonder what they have to hide. Put simply, the Greens and
Teals doth protest too much on this issue.

Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political donors such as Clive Palmer

Another potential target of the laws is businessman and Teal
    funder Simon Holmes à Court

The Greens have taken massive donations in the past, contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules
(Greens leader Adam Bandt and Senator Mehreen Faruqi are pictured)

The major parties have long complained about the influence the likes of
Simon Holmes à Court wields behind the scenes amongst
    the Teals.

And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from the wealthy in the past,
contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules.

Now that tangible change has been proposed, these
bastions of virtue are running a mile from reforms that
will curtail dark art of political donations.

The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency
rules to take effect immediately, by the way. It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power play before the next election designed to catch the crossbench out.

They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough time
to absorb and understand the changes before preparing for them.

Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and the Coalition. I imagine the opposition want to go over the laws with
    a fine tooth comb.

As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond
Labor to include hidden one-party advantages in the
proposed design which would create loopholes only the unions are capable of
taking advantage of, therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally in the years to come.

But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal to get these proposed laws implemented, the crossbench
should offer their support, not cynical opposition, to what is being advocated
    for.

They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that could be incorporated in the package.

To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary about being in politics to ‘clean things
    up’.

5 more .40 stamps than .30 stamps. the total value of her .40 is
5.20 more than the value of her .30 stamps. how many .40 stamps does Asha?

    Asked by Wiki User

    x = y + 5 given in the question.

    $5.20 = 520c

    40*x = 30*y + 520

    x = y + 5

    40*(y + 5) = 30*y + 520

    40y + 200 = 30y + 520

    10y = 320

    y = 32

    x = y + 5

    = 32 + 5

    =37

  16. Joker: Folie À Deux — starring Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix — has garnered the lowest CinemaScore in comic book
movie history as the film bombed at the box office on opening night.

The psychological musical thriller — which has
been criticized as ‘bleak’ and ‘disappointing’ — officially released in theaters on Friday, October 4, but
it only raked in $20 million at the domestic box office, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Phoenix reprised his role as the Joker in the sequel, which had earned him an Oscar for his portrayal
in the 2019 film, while Gaga took on the role of Harleen Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn).

However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score for a comic

Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier
this year and also received terrible reviews — holds a higher score with a C+.

Joker: Folie À Deux is branded ‘bleak’ and the ‘most disappointing follow-up’ by
    critics

Weeks ago, the movie had been projected to bring in around $70
million – but the number has since drastically dropped.

Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters – and eventually
landed a little over $1 billion in the global box office.

The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips – had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million.

The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both
critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International
    Film Festival.

Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of the Joker (Arthur Fleck) –
and the film garnered an additional Academy Award
    for Best Original Score.

The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film
Festival last month in September, where it earned
a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of
    31% and a critic score of 32%

However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared their opinions on the sequel, which features
    musical sequences.

One fan penned, ‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this. what happened to the script?’ while another
added, ‘is it that bad,’ followed by a crying face emoji.

‘Ironically I feel that a musical, if done well, could have
been a good choice. It’d show how much of an unreliable narrator Fleck
    is,’ one typed.

‘But with some original songs, that keep everything vague, not
just covers. Also when I heard of the ending I snorted fr.’

A social media user wrote, ‘Stop making sequels
as musicals if the original wasn’t a musical.’

‘Maybe he [Phillips] only had an hour long movie, and decided to randomly add musical scenes
to fill the runtime,’ one penned.

‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ another shared, along with a monkey
    staring out a window.

One fan said, ‘the movie sucks. i had to walk
out of the cinema,’ while another penned, ‘After years of disagreement….*Joker 2 releases* Critics
    [shaking hands] Audience.’

‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ another shared,
along with a monkey staring out a window

‘That’s way below what we expected,’ one wrote in regards
to the current Rotten Tomatoes scores. ‘People are saying this is the worst sequel ever.’

A fan explained, ‘yea this film was bad. it was pretentious and dull.
has the aesthetic of an arthouse film without the
    substance.’

‘It also insults the audience’s intelligence. the songs were also underwhelming too.
they shouldn’t have let this escape to theaters.’

One shared, ‘The audience that loved the first movie is not the
same audience running to see musicals. This was a gigantic mistake from step 1.’

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips discussed whether he would be interested in making a third
Joker film or a movie centered around Gaga’s character.

‘It’s not really where this movie is headed for me. I feel like
my time in the DC Universe was these two films.’

Ahead of the movie’s release, Lady Gaga also dropped an accompanying album titled Harlequin on September 27.

Joker: Folie À Deux has been branded the ‘most disappointing follow-up to the Oscar-winning movie’ by
critics, as they cast doubt on Lady Gaga’s ‘thin’ role in the film following its release on Friday.

‘That’s way below what we expected,’ one wrote in regards to
the current Rotten Tomatoes scores. ‘People are saying this is the worst sequel
    ever’

A fan explained, ‘yea this film was bad. it was pretentious and dull.
has the aesthetic of an arthouse film without the substance’

The ‘bleak’ sequel, has also received a tepid reception from fans, with some claiming
Lady Gaga’s career could be at risk.

While the same director Todd Phillips was back in the hot seat,
critics have said the sequel is just a ‘repeat’ of the first hit but with an added musical twist.

Most critics have said Todd failed to use Gaga correctly in the
movie and claimed she was only bought in for the musical aspect of
    it.

While the majority of critics say Joker: Folie
À Deux didn’t live up to expectations, others have dubbed the movie ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant.’

Daily Mail’s Brian Viner commended the move as ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant’ but said it lacked any thrill.

The Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab said: ‘Today Joker is best remembered
as one of the most subversive and original films of the last decade, while its hugely anticipated
sequel is just as bleak and formally daring as its predecessor’.

Meanwhile, the Irish Times’ Donald Clarke gave the movie just two stars but credited Phillips’ work for making a sequel following
    the first movie’s $1billion success.

Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although Gaga worked
hard to bump the ratings up in the sequel, Phillips appeared
to have no idea what to do with her.

Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw
claimed the movie proves ‘claustrophobic’ and ‘repetitive.’

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips discussed whether he would be interested in making a third Joker film or a movie centered around
Gaga’s character; Phillips, Gaga and Phoenix seen in September in L.A.

Joker: Folie À Deux has been branded the ‘most disappointing follow-up to the Oscar-winning movie’ by critics, as they cast doubt on Lady
Gaga’s ‘thin’ role in the film following its release on Friday; seen in September in London

The Times’ Kevin Maher wrote: ‘The director Todd Phillips said there would be
no follow-up to the original, but he changed his mind and the result is a derivative musical’

‘This might be the most disappointing follow-up to an Oscar-winning performance since Anthony Hopkins reworked his silky
and terrifying Dr Lecter from for the campy, kitschy.’

Along with Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, other stars
that had appeared in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and Steve
    Coogan.

Joker: Folie à Deux has faced additional backlash from fans as
they have claimed that Gaga is running the risk of losing her acting career.

In a legendary scene, an insane Jack hacks at a bathroom door with an axe as his cowering wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) screams inside.

As he busts a hole in the door, he sticks his face through,

The original Smile, released in September 2022, and starring Sosie Bacon, was a sleeper hit, which was well
    received and earned $217,408,513 globally.

Smile 2 has received a 83-percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 83-percent Popcornmeter rating from audiences.

  19. Penny Lancaster is prepared to go to ‘authorities’ to discuss what happened
during cut scenes with MasterChef’s Gregg Wallace after the host stepped down from the BBC show amid a series of misconduct claims.

Fans will remember Penny, 53, leaving Celebrity MasterChef in tears in 2021, after Gregg, 60, told her off with the
‘serious’ delay of her food and then refused to
    eat what she served.

A spokesperson for Penny Lancaster told MailOnline: ‘While Penny is happy to talk
to the appropriate authorities should they feel she has anything useful to add,
she will not be discussing the matter with any broadcaster or newspaper at this time.’

Penny’s husband Rod Stewart accused Gregg of ‘humiliating’
Penny and then having the footage ‘cut’ from the show on Instagram on Thursday, although the production company is yet to comment on the incident.

The moment when Gregg refused to eat Penny’s tartar sauce –
blasting her for using ‘whole eggs instead of egg yolks’ –
re-emerged after her husband Rod branded him a
    ‘tubby bully’.

Gregg also chastised Penny – who is a volunteer special
police constable – for being late serving
her food to critics in the quarter finals, leaving
    her in tears.

Penny Lancaster is prepared to go to authorities to discuss what happened during cut scenes with MasterChef’s Gregg
Wallace after the host stepped down amid misconduct claims

The BBC has since revealed that 13 people, including Kirsty Wark , have complained about his conduct while working with him over a 17-year period
across five shows, from 2005 to 2022.

Following Gregg’s departure, Rod Stewart released a statement to Instagram branding him a ‘tubby bully’

Gregg, stepped away from MasterChef amid accusations of ‘sexualised’
behaviour during filming of the hit BBC show.

Following the announcement, Sir Rod wrote: ‘Good riddance Wallace…
You humiliated my wife when she was on the show, but you had
    that bit cut out didn’t you? You’re a tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully.
    Karma got ya’.

The BBC has revealed 13 people, including Kirsty Wark,
have complained about his conduct while working with him over a 17-year period across five shows,
    from 2005 to 2022.

Kirsty alleges Gregg told stories and jokes of a ‘sexualised nature’ in front of
contestants and crew while filming Celebrity
MasterChef in 2011 on two occasions and added his gags and comments were ‘really, really
    in the wrong place’.

‘There were two occasions in particular where he used sexualised language in front of a number of people and it wasn’t as if anyone engaged with this.
It was completely one-way traffic. But I think people were uncomfortable and something that I really did not
    expect to happen’, she said.

The BBC and MasterChef’s production company, Banijay, declined to comment.

In a resurfaced clip from Penny’s time on the
show, the former model was humiliated when her fried calamari and homemade tartar sauce went awry, with the judges
refusing to taste what was brandied a ‘raw egg/oil milkshake’.

When initially tasked with making her own tartar sauce the former
Loose Woman star seemed to believe she was getting
off to a promising start, beaming with confidence.  She
quipped to the camera: ‘I’m doing surprisingly well
compared to what I imagined how I’d be doing. I don’t want to slip up now.’

But she spoke too soon as her sauce quickly went wrong as John delivered the devastating blow of declaring the sauce inedible.

‘You used whole eggs instead of egg yolks’.

‘What I’ve got in here is a raw egg/oil milkshake. Unfortunately,
I can’t eat that,’ co-judge John Torode added.

However all wasn’t lost for Penny as she received compliments on her calamari from the duo and later
wowed the hosts with her chicken and coconut curry, green papaya chutney, grated apple, turnip and carrot salad as
    well as the coconut rice.

Gregg showered her with praise at the time branding her ‘a
stand out cook’, adding: ‘I found myself going from bowl to bowl to bowl and finding it difficult to stop, you have had what we call in the industry and very good day.’

However another clip showed a tense moment between Penny and Gregg as
    chaos ensued in the kitchen.

In the episode where the model was later eliminated, Gregg told
Penny: ‘Mate, we can’t be 10 minutes late,’ calling her
    delay ‘serious’.

Penny admitted she was so emotional: ‘Everything piled on top of me.
I just hope the wait was worth it,’ she said.

But unfortunately she was knocked out of the show.

Post-results, a choked Penny said: ‘It would’ve been incredible to
get through to the semi finals but it wasn’t
meant to be. Absolutely no regrets whatsoever.

I’ve always loved to eat food, never loved to cook – and now I love both.’

    went to Heath Ledger.

The 50-year-old actor – whose latest flick Joker: Folie À Deux could be
streamed now – got candid about potentially playing the supervillain before he actually portrayed him.

Joaquin recently appeared on Rick Rubin’s Tetragrammaton podcast as he revealed
that he spoke to the 54-year-old Oscar-winning filmmaker Nolan about portraying Joker over a decade before.

He said: That didn’t… wasn’t going to happen for a number
of reasons. I wasn’t ready then.

‘That’s one of those things sometimes where you go: “Why am I not doing this project? What is stopping me from doing this? Well it’s not about me, there’s something else. There’s another person that’s going to do something that’s like, I can’t imagine what it would be if we didn’t have Heath Ledger‘s performance in that film.”‘

But I know that we met, and my feeling was, “I shouldn’t do this.” But maybe he also was

The Dark Knight actor died aged 28 after taking
a fatal cocktail of drugs, leaving behind his daughter, who was two years old at the time.

Meanwhile Joker: Folie À Deux can now be streamed, just weeks after its theatrical release.

The movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, is now available to rent from home starting October 29, in an effort to recoup some of Warner Bros.
investment into the film, as per Variety.

The musical, which bombed at the box office, is ‘poised

Terrifier 3 dethrones Joker: Folie À Deux as box office champ

The movie studio spent about $200 million to produce the film and about $100 million on marketing and distribution, according to
    the report.

It would need to gross about $450 million at the box office to break even —
when factoring in the cut taken by theaters — though Warner Bros.
sources claim the number is $375 million.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson responded to the report, saying ‘Any estimates suggested by anonymous “insiders”
or “rival executives” are grossly wrong and continues
a trend where rumor is reported as fact.’

‘The film continues to play in theatrical release, included with
this week’s opening in China, and will continue to earn revenue throughout its home viewing and ancillary run.’

So far, the musical about Batman’s nemesis has grossed $51.5 million domestically and $165 million globally after two
    weeks of release.

In comparison, the first Joker grossed $96.2 million domestically and $248.4 million globally after
    three days of release.

The hotly-anticipated sequel to the 2019 billion dollar Oscar-winning film was considered a surefire hit for Warner Bros Pictures, yet
ended up being slammed by critics and failed to ignite at the box
    office.

Joker: Folie À Deux has garnered the lowest CinemaScore in comic book movie history as the film bombed at the box office on opening night.

The psychological musical thriller — which has been criticized as
‘bleak’ and ‘disappointing’ — officially released in theaters on Friday, October 4.

Lady Gaga, can be streamed now, just weeks after its theatrical release; Phoenix and Gaga seen in a still

Phoenix reprised his role as the Joker in the sequel, which had earned
him an Oscar for his portrayal in the 2019 film,
while Gaga took on the role of Harleen Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn).

However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest
score for a comic book movie.

Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this
year and also received terrible reviews — holds a higher score with a C+.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31% and a critic score of
    32%.

The sequel has been roundly criticized for being a musical and ‘ignoring’ the DC fanbase
    – with an agent familiar with director Todd Phillips’ process telling Variety he ‘wanted nothing to
do with DC’ during the making of the film, with DC bosses
James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent from
the film’s LA premiere afterparty last month.

A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill guy
in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide.
Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film does not include a DC Studios logo.

A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of the
Joker sequel, while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and Warner- with claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros.
Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no to Phillips due to his huge past successes.

It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy rather than Gunn
and Safran – who took control of DC two months before production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.

Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter:
‘With all due respect to them, this is kind of a Warner Bros.
    movie.’

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with Phillips shortly after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged in April 2022
and was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the director would make the sequel at a lower price point.’

The studio wanted to film in London which would
have cost around 20 per cent less.

A source directly involved with the film recently shared: ‘The one thing about genre stuff: If
you don’t listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are,
you’re going to fail’; director Todd Phillips seen with Gaga and Phoenix at the LA premiere September 30

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.

A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio ‘supported the decision to film in Los Angeles’.

A source directly involved with the film said:
‘No one could get through to Todd. And the one thing about genre stuff:
If you don’t listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re going to
    fail.

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere the film at the Venice Film Festival, but Phillips pushed
back – with a Warner spokesman saying the studio ‘fully
supported the decision to bring the film to Venice.

Along with Gaga and Phoenix, other stars that had appeared in the sequel include
Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and Steve Coogan.

  21. Smile 2 – starring Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage and Jack Nicholson’s son Ray – emerged as the winner after
a horror movie box office showdown.

The fright flick eclipsed hot contender Terrifier 3 for the top
    spot.

The Smile sequel starring Scott, 31,  as a pop star who begins experiencing terrifying and inexplicable events as she
prepares for a world tour, opened wide in more than 3,600 theaters, pulling in a payday of $23 million.

Ray, whose mom is Nicholson’s former partner Rebecca Broussard,
shocked fans with an eerie grin in the new movie, which was near-identical to the Oscar-winner’s maniacal
smile as Jack Torrance in the 1980 Stanley
    Kubrick classic, The Shining.

In a legendary scene, an insane Jack hacks at a bathroom door with an axe as his cowering wife
Wendy (Shelley Duvall) screams inside. As he
busts a hole in the door, he sticks his face through, grins
and exclaims: ‘Here’s Johnny!’ in an improvised line.

The original Smile, released in September 2022, and starring Sosie Bacon, was a sleeper hit, which was well received and earned $217,408,
    513 globally.

Smile 2 has received a 83-percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 83-percent Popcornmeter rating from audiences.

Smile 2 stars Jack Nicholson’s son Ray (left). In the new horror, he recreated the Oscar-winner’s maniacal smile

  27. July 20 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International beat analysts’ expectations for quarterly profit and raised the lower
end of its annual earnings forecast, as tobacco and labor costs ease, and
demand remains robust for its smokeless Zyn and IQOS
    products.

In December last year, Philip Morris acquired Hay-maker Swedish Match for a share of the popular smokeless and spitless nicotine pouches as younger customers increasingly
prefer alternatives to traditional combustible cigarettes.

Shipment volume growth for Zyn in the U.S. jumped more
than 50% in the three months ended June 30, the company said on Thursday.

From mid-2024, Philip Morris will have the sole rights to
market and sell IQOS products – which heat cigarettes instead of burning them – in the U.S., as per its deal
    with Altria Group .

Total IQOS users at the end of June were up by 1.4 million from March, the
company said, taking the total number to 27.2 million.

Its second-quarter adjusted profit per share of $1.60 beat analysts’ average
estimates for a profit of $1.47, as per Refinitiv data.

Net revenue rose 14.5% to $8.97 billion, topping estimates
    of $8.65 billion.

The 176-year old company is also benefiting from higher prices for its traditional combustible cigarettes, after supply-chain snags inflated freight and raw-material costs
    last year.

Philip Morris now expects these pressures to ease in the second half of the year, allowing the company to raise the lower-end of its full-year
    profit forecast.

The company boosted the lower end to $6.13 per share from $6.10, while retaining the upper end at $6.22.

Despite lead single Disease stalling on the Hot 100 at No.
27, the 38-year-old is forging ahead with her next album, which she described as both ‘fun’ and ‘darker.’

Speaking to Vogue magazine about the project, Gaga said
that she’s been focused on the production side
    of her new songs.

    ‘I love producing — I always have — and
something that was really important to me making my seventh studio
album was blending live instrumentation with programming,’ she explained.

‘The album is chaotic from a genre perspective
    — it is genre-bending, and I think in that way is a deeply personal look into my mind as a producer and the way I think about music.’

She also said that the album has a ‘darker pop’ sound that’s more in line
with her iconic 2009 album, The Fame Monster.

However, fans need not be worried that Gaga is going too somber
    with her sound.

‘The album is not extremely serious in that it’s
very fun and meant to be enjoyed at a party,
in a club, or at home having personal fun time — to be free of your worries at home
or walking through life,’ she insisted.

Lady Gaga is focused on releasing her seventh studio
album this February following the disappointing reception to
    lead single Disease

Gaga released the album’s lead single Disease last month
to rave reviews from music critics, who lauded it as a return to
    the star’s roots.

Unfortunately, the acclaim failed to translate to the charts, with Disease debuting at No.
27 on the Hot 100 – her worst entry for a lead single in 16 years.

On the bright side, Gaga is currently enjoying one of her biggest hits in years
thanks to her Bruno Mars duet, Die With a Smile.

The ballad has so far reached No. 2 on the Hot 100 and No.

1 on the Pop Airplay Chart.

It comes after Gaga’s leading role in the disastrous Joker:
    Folie à Deux.

The follow-up to the Oscar-winning 2019 film, starring Joaquin Phoenix
as Arthur Fleck (Joker) and Gaga as Lee Quinzel (Harley
Quinn), faced negative reviews from critics before its October 4 release and
    flopped at the box office.

Tim, 39, who played a guard at Arkham Asylum in the movie, said Todd Philips’s new film
has ‘no plot’ and admitted he knew it was ‘going to bomb’ while filming.

Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Tim said: ‘It’s the worst film
    ever made.

Gaga told Vogue magazine that she’s been focused on the production side of her new songs

Gaga released the album’s lead single Disease last month to rave reviews from music critics, but the song flopped on the Hot 100

‘I think what happened, after the first Joker, there was a lot of talk like, “Oh, this was loved by incels. This was loved by the wrong kinds of people. This sent the wrong kind of message. Male rage! Nihilism!” All these think pieces.

‘And then I think, “What if we went the other way,” and now they
have Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga tap dancing to a point where it’s insane,’ he continued.

‘It has no plot. We would sit there, me and these other guys
were all dressed in these security outfits because we’re working at the Arkham Asylum,
and I would turn to one of them and we’d hear this crap and I’d go, “What the f*** is this?” And they’d
go, “This is going to bomb, man.” I go, “This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen.”

‘We were talking about it at lunch, and we’d go, “What is the plot? Is there a plot? I don’t know, I think he falls in love with her in the prison?” It’s not even hate-watchable.

    That’s how terrible it is.’

LUXEMBOURG, Oct 7 (Reuters) – Germany’s economic model is not broken but Europe’s biggest economy has lost competitiveness
over the past decade, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said on Monday.

“We can’t be satisfied with the economic developments in Germany,” he
told journalists ahead of a Eurogroup meeting.

The German economy is expected to contract by 0.2% in 2024, an economy ministry spokesperson said on Monday, cutting the forecast from a previous projection of
    0.3% growth this year.

If realised, this would be the second consecutive year of contraction for Germany’s economy, which was the weakest among its large euro zone peers last year with a 0.3% decline
    in gross domestic product.

Lindner said the government was introducing supply-side measures to try to return the economy to growth.

“After these reforms, Germany will have more competitiveness again,” Lindner
said, adding that the growth initiative was just a first step for an economic turnaround, “but we have to build on it.”

    AMBITION NEEDED

Lindner said “ambition” was needed to keep EU public finances in order, or to
put them back in order where necessary.

“I can only encourage everyone to implement structural reforms and to make unpopular decisions,” Lindner said.

“What seems to be unpopular at the moment is the willingness to take responsibility for the next generation and for the stability of the European Union as a whole.”

Lindner said he could not comment on the French budget plans because he had not had the chance to talk with his
French colleagues yet, but he would do so on Monday evening.

“We should all realise that the credibility of public finances vis-à-vis the capital markets is not to be trifled with,” Lindner said.

“We must credibly reduce our deficits and our debt so that we can continue to finance ourselves well and in a stable manner.”

  34. ‘Tis the season of hosiery. Paired with a mini skirt and a
sequin blazer (we’re looking at you, Selena Gomez), or styled with a little black dress and
a pair of killer heels (à la Alexa Chung at
the Fashion Awards), tights and stockings are a great way to add style – and perhaps an extra layer of warmth – to your outfits during the autumn and winter months.

From matte to glossy, opaque to sheer, and black to skin-toned shades, there’s
a lot more to consider than just the denier number when it comes to picking
out a pair of classic tights. And then, of course, there is also patterned hosiery (think delicate designs like a back
seam, polka dots or lace detailing) to elevate your winter
    style.

    ‘Tis the season of hosiery

In 2024, tights should no longer be an obligation but a fashion choice.
Google searches for ‘tights’ are up by 115%
since the temperatures first dropped, and at high-street favourite M&S two pairs are sold every minute.
So what styles are we buying?

The top spot is claimed by the retailer’s 60 Denier
Body Sensor Tights (a handy three-pack that sells for just £8 and is
available in a black, navy and brown). The 40 Denier Body Sensor Tights (£8 for a three-pack) are second favourite,
followed by the 30 Denier Body Sensor Tights (£8 for a three-pack).
The fourth most popular pair is the 60 Denier Magicwear Opaque Tights (£14 for a two-pack), and the top five is rounded out by the 100 Denier Magicwear Opaque Tights (£14 for a two-pack).

These are the number one selling tights at Marks & Spencer

M&S believes the decision between opaque and sheer tights should
be based on the formality of our outfit. ‘Opaque black tights
will go with basically everything. Often said
to clash with black; blue or brown hues are also an option.’

‘Sheer tights are great for more formal occasions
and warmer temperatures, as they provide a lighter and more breathable option,’ the high street giant added.

‘You can achieve that elegant, barely-there look with a little extra coverage.’

Similarly, intricate patterns, logos and glitter are best suited for evening looks, says M&S.
‘For a daytime or office look, stick with polka dots or diamond patterned tights, or
if you’re looking for some added cosiness, try cable-knit tights
    for some subtle texture.’

  36. July 23 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International pushed the test-launch of its heated tobacco device, IQOS, in the U.S.
to the fourth quarter on Tuesday and lowered its annual forecast for
    the heated tobacco business.

The pilot was earlier scheduled to run in Austin, Texas,
in the second quarter, for which the company
    reported results on the day.

The company declined to comment on why the launch had
    been delayed.

Philip Morris has invested billions to promote and expand its portfolio of alternatives to traditional combustible cigarettes
amid stricter regulations and falling smoking rates in some markets.

The launch of its flagship heated tobacco device
in the United States is also facing resistance from health campaigners,
who have written to regulators in the country accusing the company of misrepresenting past regulatory decisions,
    Reuters reported last week.

The company also awaits market authorization from the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration for its IQOS ILUMA device, which it expects
by the second half of 2025.

A ban on flavored heated tobacco in the European Union has already hit shipments this year, with Philip Morris saying the impact from the ban was “slightly greater” than previously assumed.

This led the company to temper its expectations for volume
growth in the heated tobacco category to around 13% for the full year, down from between 14% and 16% expected earlier.

However, Philip Morris topped quarterly expectations and raised
its annual sales and profit forecasts, betting on demand for its Zyn nicotine pouches, as well as higher cigarette pricing.

  37. A billionaire couple have won the right to remove a single tree from the driveway of their
lavish $20million mansion after being blocked by their local
    council.

Paul Holmes a Court, the son of Australia’s first billionaire Robert Holmes
a Court, and his wife Zara had been at loggerheads with their local council
over a request to remove a single peppermint tree growing in the middle of their driveway.

The couple bought the four-bedroom mansion in the affluent, tree-lined suburb overlooking Perth’s Freshwater Bay for $20.1million in August.

They wanted to remove the tree but the Shire of Peppermint Grove refused
the request on the grounds the tree was not dead or deceased.

‘We are very lucky to live here, but I have to say that the
tree placement is unusual,’ Ms Holmes a Court previously told a council meeting.

‘I’m quite a reasonable and rational person, but a tree in the middle of the driveway makes
it quite tricky to reverse out.’

The couple enjoyed a breakthrough at a council meeting last week after an alternative motion was unanimously passed that allowed the tree to be removed on the condition they paid
a $2,500 bond before any work was done on the
    driveway.

They will also need to plant two replacement trees on their property.

suddenly of heart failure at the age of 53

Paul Holmes à Court and his wife Zara won a council battle to
remove a peppermint tree (pictured) from the driveway of their $20million mansion

Ms Holmes a Court previously claimed the tree’s odd placement
also made it difficult to spot cars turning the corner at a nearby intersection with
    Bay View Terrace.

After the motion to remove the tree was passed at the meeting,
councillor Douglas Jackson said it was a ‘good outcome’.

‘I think it meets both the owners’ wants, or expectation, but also matches the council’s needs at
the same time by ensuring that there is tree cover on the
verge of that property,’ he said.

Peppermint Grove is hoping to implement a policy that would even make it an offence to damage or
remove any mature trees on private property without council approval.

Last month, WA Planning Minister John Carey said he hoped the Shire of Peppermint Grove would
‘take a common sense approach’ to the issue.

‘This is part of the challenge that we do have with local
government. I’ve always been on the record that we need local governments to take a common sense approach to issues,’ Mr Carey told the West Australian.

‘And I understand people are passionate about trees.

But ultimately, we do need local governments to assess the situation and find pragmatic outcomes.’

According to the online listing for the four-bedroom, four-bathroom mansion – which
is built on a corner block along the banks of the Swan River –
the sprawling Federation-style property was built in around 1904.

The Holmes à Court property was built in around 1904
in Federation ‘Arts and Crafts’ style

The home boast an unparalleled view of the Swan River overlooking Fresh Water
    Bay

‘Designed in the rare Federation ‘Arts and Crafts’ style,
the home has retained all its elegance and splendour via lofty
ceilings, sweeping verandas, charming decorative arches, casement-style sash windows, and walls of French doors that bathe the
home in light, reflecting river views beyond,’ the listing
    said.

The property also features ‘Plush Champagne-hued
carpets’ and ‘cobble-stoned remote garage to accommodate six
cars, abundant storage, gym area, double vanity rain-shower bathroom and climate-controlled wine
    cellar.’

Mr Holmes a Court is the chief executive of prize-winning wine label Vasse Felix and the brother of Peter Holmes à Court,
who once jointly owned of the South Sydney Rabbitohs with Russell
Crowe, and climate philanthropist Simon Holmes à Court.

Feb 8 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International on Thursday missed estimates for fourth quarter profit and forecasts for 2024,
with slowing sales of its flagship heated tobacco product IQOS in particular
    concerning analysts.

The Marlboro cigarette maker has so far led a transition among tobacco
giants towards smoking alternatives, with IQOS at the core of that effort,
consuming the vast majority of over $10 billion PMI has
poured into its transformation since 2008.

It said on Thursday that shipments of heated tobacco
units grew by 6.1% in the fourth quarter, compared with 18% growth in the third quarter.

Philip Morris added that it expected a further hit to shipments over the coming year
as a result of a ban on flavoured heated tobacco in the European Union.

Chief Executive Jacek Olczak said however IQOS had now surpassed
Marlboro in terms of net revenues.

“We are entering 2024 with strong momentum,” he said in a statement.

Any sustained slowdown in IQOS sales was a problem for Philip
Morris given its significance for the business and the company’s premium relative to peers, analysts said.

But Mark Giambrone, a portfolio manager at Barrow
Hanley, a sub-adviser to American Beacon’s Large Cap Value Fund which
invests in PMI, was not too concerned.

IQOS is set to test launch in the United States, the
world’s largest market for smoking alternatives, this year with a full roll-out later.

“When that happens it will be a boon for the stock and for their earnings base,” Giambrone said.

The company’s shares fell 3%, but recovered to stand around 1.6% lower
    by 11:20 a.m. ET (1620 GMT).

PMI reported fourth-quarter adjusted profit of $1.36 per share.
Analysts had on average had expected a profit of $1.45.

It expects adjusted annual profit of between $6.32 and $6.44
per share, while analysts were expecting $6.60 per
share, LSEG data showed. (Reporting by Granth Vanaik in Bengaluru

The singer, whose hits include Bad Romance, Born This Way, Just Dance and Poker Face, is headed

which was inspired by Joker: Folie à Deux.

Among the tracks on the album included two new songs, and standards such as That’s Entertainment, That’s Life and Get Happy.

Like the film, it was not an initial commercial success, marking her lowest ever entry for a full-length record on the Billboard 200 charts at number 20.

Lady Gaga in the movie played the role of Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix, who earned the Best
Actor Oscar for his performance in the franchise’s 2019 film Joker.

According to the outlet, Joker: Folie à Deux ‘could potentially lose $150 to
$200 million’ despite studio insiders saying it would break even.

The Warner Bros. film has made $192.2 million worldwide, with $56.6 million in domestic box office revenue, according to

  40. Gillian Jacobs looked chic in red as she appeared on Watch
    What Happens Live on Wednesday.

The Love star, 40, who is plugging her new series Transatlantic,
ended up weighing in on the Vanderpump Rules
Scandoval alongside guest Lala Kent during
    a fun-filled interview.

The Community alum looked ready for anything in a long, short-sleeved, ribbed cranberry dress with pink stripes down the sides and pink detailing at
the waist and a high slit up one leg.

The Seven Faces of Jane star wore pointy-toed pale
pink pumps with the dress and carried an LL Bean-style tote bag.

Her long, blonde hair was styled in a Veronica Lake hairstyle.
Her makeup was dramatic and her lip color matched her unique dress.

On air look: Gillian Jacobs looked chic in red as she appeared on Watch What Happens Live on Wednesday

Scandoval: during a Wednesday appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the Love star, 40, ended up weighing in on the Vanderpump Rules Scandoval alongside
    guest Lala Kent

WWHL host Andy Cohen fired questions at the Ibiza star, asking her if
she thinks Raquel Leviss actually thought she had chemistry with Tom Schwartz.

Gillian said no. She also revealed that she’s a VPR viewer
and appreciates all the context the newest episodes have given to the off
screen drama that’s been dominating pop culture news since
    March 3.

And when it comes to who she blames more for the affair between Raquel
and Tom Sandoval, she agreed with the most of the rest of the
    world and said, ‘Sandoval.’

But Lala brought up a good point, saying the blame is on both of their
shoulders since Raquel was best friends with Sandoval’s girlfriend of nearly a decade, Ariana Madix.

When Cohen asked the Fear Street actress if she thought
Raquel and Sandoval would last, she screwed up her
face in disgust and said, ‘Um, no.’

Currently, Gillian is playing Mary Jayne Gold, a real-life
Chicago heiress who worked to rescue European Jews,
intellectuals, and artists, during World War II in Transatlantic
    on Netflix.

‘I think that she felt compelled to help in any way that she could,
‘ she said of her character in an interview with Town and Country.

‘Certainly in our version of the telling of it, initially, what she feels like she has to offer is her money, her wealth.’

She added: ‘The story that we’re telling is that she’s also realizing that she has more to offer
    beyond that’.

‘In real life and in Transatlantic, she was an incredibly wealthy woman who had
this unique ability in this moment to help out and she chose to
    do that.’

‘I read a quote from her saying that this was the most important year of her life,’
she said of the real life Mary Jane. ‘This was the year of
her life that was the most consequential and important.

‘She lived a long life but I think that this was
really, the most important period of her life.
I tried to not have foreknowledge—you don’t want to bring, you want your character to be living in the present.’

‘I think even at the time, she had a recognition of that to some
    degree.’

WWHL: She also revealed that she’s a VPR viewer and appreciates
all the context the newest episodes have given to the off screen drama that’s been dominating pop culture news since March 3

Earlier this year, the Pittsburgh native debuted the Seven Faces
of Jane, an anthology comprised of eight short films all starring the actress as the main character.

The anthology has eight different directors, including Jacobs along with Ken Jeong, Gia Coppola,
Ryan Heffington, Alexandra Cassavetes, Boma Iluma, Julian Acosta and Alex
    Takacs.

The cast includes the likes of Emanuela Postacchini, Anthony Skordi, Leticia LaBelle, Benjamin Hjelm,
Chido Nwokocha, Sybil Azur, Daniela Hernandez, Joel McHale,
Caroline Ducrocq, Breeda Wool, Soledad St. Hilaire, Joni Reiss and Paris Nicole.

  41. March 24 (Reuters) – Marlboro maker Philip Morris International Inc is working on options to exit the
Russian market, citing a complex and rapidly changing regulatory and operating environment in the country
    following its invasion of Ukraine.

The company, which garnered around 6% its net revenue from Russia
in 2021, said on Thursday it has discontinued sale of several cigarette products and canceled all product launches
    for the year in Russia.

It has also canceled plans to make over 20 billion TEREA
sticks, heated tobacco units intended for use with its
IQOS ILUMA devices, as well as related investment of $150 million.

Earlier this month, Philip Morris had suspended its planned investments and
decided to scale down manufacturing operations in the country.

Rival Imperial Brands too has started talks to transfer its Russian business to a local third party, joining
BAT in exiting the sanction-hit country.

  44. Sept 28 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International on Thursday said it would
be filing a premarket tobacco product application (PMTA) in the United States for its
    IQOS ILUMA product in October.

The company at its investor day said that while the PMTA timeline remains “hard to predict”, it expects the launch of the ILUMA heated tobacco units towards
the second half of its three-year forecast period of 2024
    to 2026.

IQOS heats up packets of ground tobacco but does not burn them, a
process the company says potentially results in fewer health risks than traditional smoking

A PMTA is required to sell new tobacco products in the
United States, with manufacturers required to provide scientific data demonstrating a
product is appropriate for the protection of public health.

The term means ‘the presence of the same or similar delusional ideas in two persons

And while the name is a stroke of clever ingenuity, the film itself might leave
audiences feeling more bewildered than entertained.

Joker: Folie À Deux is branded ‘bleak’ and the ‘most disappointing follow-up’ by critics

Joaquin reprised his role as the Joker in the sequel, which had earned him an Oscar
for his portrayal in the 2019 film, while Gaga took on the role of Harleen Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn).

However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score for a comic book movie
    at the time of writing.

Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this year and also received terrible reviews — holds a
    higher score with a C+.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31 percent and a critic score of 33 percent.

The sequel is projected to rake in less that
$50 million at the domestic box office during the entirety of opening weekend, per The Hollywood
    Reporter.

The movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number has
    since drastically dropped.

Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters – and eventually

The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips – had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget
increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million.

The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International Film Festival.

Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of the Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the film garnered an additional Academy Award for Best Original Score.

The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film

    ovation, per Deadline.

However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared their opinions on the sequel,

  46. March 24 (Reuters) – Marlboro maker Philip Morris International Inc is working on options to exit the Russian market, citing a complex and
rapidly changing regulatory and operating environment in the country following its invasion of Ukraine.

The company, which garnered around 6% its net revenue from Russia in 2021, said on Thursday it has
discontinued sale of several cigarette products and canceled all product launches for the year in Russia.

It has also canceled plans to make over 20 billion TEREA sticks, heated tobacco units intended
for use with its IQOS ILUMA devices, as well as related investment of $150 million.

Earlier this month, Philip Morris had suspended its planned investments and decided to scale down manufacturing operations in the country.

Rival Imperial Brands too has started talks to transfer its Russian business to a local third party, joining
BAT in exiting the sanction-hit country.

  47. Nothing signals the start of winter quite like the return of the
Fair Isle knit. Once considered ‘ugly’ knitwear
we’d only pull out from the back of our wardrobes as an alternative
to a Christmas jumper (especially the red-nosed reindeer kind
à la Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones’s Diary) or for a
winter sport holiday (specifically for après-ski), the Fair Isle jumper has now become somewhat of a fashion statement.

The knit is named after the small, eponymous Shetland Island in Scotland
and uses a traditional knitting technique to create those distinctive patterns with multiple colours.
It was brought into vogue by an earlier Prince of Wales
(later Edward VIII) in the 1920s, and has remained
a casual wardrobe staple for members of the Royal Family, including Kate Middleton, whose jumper collection includes at least
    three different Fair Isle designs.

    Kensington Palace

Another fan of the nostalgic knit is Alexa Chung, who recently layered
a Fair Isle vest by Molly Goddard over a light blue button-down in a
snap for Instagram. The It-girl previously also wore a V-neck vest from Cotswolds-based knitwear
brand Cooking Apple, and sported a chunky Fair Isle crewneck with white, straight-leg jeans, black loafers and
an oversized, black leather blazer to ring in the festive season at private members’ club in London last year.

A host of designers have dropped Fair Isle-inspired knits
for AW24, proving the multicoloured jumpers have become a timeless investment.
If, as in our case, that £1,885 cashmere turtleneck from Loro Piana
is a little out of your budget, there are countless options
on the high street. The cropped cardi from Hush certainly
caught our attention, as did the Fair Isle knit that was featured in the John Lewis Christmas advert.

  51. Feb 8 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International forecast 2024 profit below expectations and
missed fourth-quarter estimates on Thursday, as heated tobacco product sales disappointed and higher costs
    weighed on performance.

The company had earlier said that pressures
on its margins should ease in the second
half of 2023, as factors such as increased use of third-party
manufacturing in countries like Indonesia and Ukraine faded.

However, fresh blows to margins emerged in the fourth quarter, including higher costs
of marketing, energy and tobacco leafs, as well as
administrative expenses, sending its adjusted operating income margin down 2.8
    percentage points to 33.7%.

Shares of PMI were down 2.3% in premarket trade.

Shipments of sticks for its flagship heated tobacco device
IQOS also fell short of analyst expectations,
and PMI said they would be hit again in 2024 due to a ban on heated tobacco flavors in the European Union.

The company’s total cigarettes and heated tobacco units (HTUs) shipment volumes dropped 0.5% in the fourth
quarter, compared to a 2.2% increase in the
    third.

Philip Morris said it expected total cigarette, HTU and oral smoke-free product shipment volumes to be flat or grow by up to
1% in 2024, mostly driven by smoke-free products.

It expects adjusted annual profit of between $6.32 and $6.44 per
share, while analysts were expecting $6.60 per share, LSEG data showed.

The downbeat forecast contrasts with that of rival Altria Group, which last week projected
2024 profit in line with expectations. It is betting on higher cigarette prices and a shift
to alternative nicotine products to cushion the blow from declining demand for traditional tobacco products.

PMI reported fourth-quarter adjusted profit of $1.36 per share.
Analysts on average had expected a profit of $1.45.
(Reporting by Granth Vanaik in Bengaluru and Emma Rumney in London; Editing by Milla Nissi)

  52. Philip Morris claims that IQOS is less toxic than cigarettes,
but multiple papers in an issue of the journal Tobacco Control concluded that the company’s own data does not fully support those claims.

Research shows that although IQOS may have lower levels of some toxicants than cigarettes,
it can still expose users to higher levels of
    other toxicants.
