Королева Анна Стюарт в начале фильма предстает существом нелепым, бестолковым, взбалмошным и противным. Ее давняя подруга и фаворитка герцогиня Марльборо годить їй, як лихій болячці, при этом проводя свою политику. Королеву это все не очень интересует: у нее кролики и подагра.
Няшная Эбигейл, оказавшаяся в тяжелом положении из-за грехов отца, во что бы то ни стало хочет вернуть себе былое положение, но пока приходится работать на кухне. И на том спасибо доброй кузине-герцогине.
Герцогиня груба и зла, а Эбигейл тискает королевиных кроликов, массирует ей ноги, слушает про ее 17 умерших детей и вообще готова на все.
А что же капитан Мэшем? Да, в общем-то, всем на него насрать. Это история не о нем.
В кои-то веки костюмированная драма – это действительно драма, а не любовная история в кринолинах или эпичное чукалово в историческом антураже. Тетки отыграли великолепно все три: злобна сука Рейчел Уайз, няшка Эмма Стоун и грустная королева Оливия Коулман. Отдельно отжег Николас Холт в роли главного оппозиционера.
Многим фильм кажется очень смешным, так и есть вначале, но примерно с середины мне уже стало невыносимо грустно.
