Страшный и ужасный муж графини умер. Графиня, женщина прямая и уверенная в себе, завидев на балу симпатичного юношу, ничтоже сумняшеся подваливает к нему. “Что, прямо здесь?!” – шокированно вопрошает юноша, похожий на Даниэля Брюля. “Нет, пойдемте в номера” – отвечает графиня. Но она не учла что юноша – сын Палатина Венгрии. А палатины не для того рожают мальчиков, чтобы им пользовались тетки вдвое старше. Особенно, если приятная интрижка грозит перерасти в полный крышеснос и угрожает планам этих самых палатинов.
Не сумев заполучить юношу, мучимая тоской и чувством собственного старопердунства, графиня устраивает в своих владениях резьбу по крестьянским девственицам, вбив себе в голову, что кровь омолаживает.
Намного интереснее выглядела бы версия, что злобный и жадный Палатин (Дьёрдь Турзо, реальная личность) оболгал графиню, чтобы подгрести под себя ее владения.
Но, несмотря на фантастичность сюжета, я получила от фильма удовольствие. Он очень красиво снят, напоминает готическую сказку манерой съемки и повествования, а дуэт Брюль-Жюли Делпи очень красиво смотрится вместе.
