Бедняга вырос без родных, в окружении льстивых придворных, на трон взошел в пять лет, а в историю вошел, как бабник и прожигатель жизни. А на самом деле у него просто была депрессия, что четко вкурила мадам де Помпадур.
Фильм снят в оень интересной манере: события показаны в хронологической последовательности и все действие сопровождается пояснениями закадрового голоса. Людовик показан, как человек одинокий, страдающий от постоянной душевной пустоты и необходимости соответствовать памяти своего великого прадеда. Он оказан добрым, заботливым, нежным отцом и даже неплохим (ну, по мере сил, мужем), страдающим от потери близких.
Фильм невероятно роскошный: все снималось прямо в Трианоне и Версале, костюмы, парики и украшения ослепляют, дивно прекрасны актеры. Отлично сделан грим: на протяжении фильма актеров искуссно старят и не так, как в Чужестранке.
