Долина Гленко, Шотландия. Типа туристическое место. Но людей нет от слова совсем. Тут снимали Гарри Поттера, в частности тут находилась хижина Хагрида. А еще тут случилась типическая для кланового Хайленда история.
Клан Макдональдов из Гленко был очень большим, с кучей ответвлений. Их называли Властителями Островов (кроме Ская, который принадлежал Маклаудам и с которым Макдональды сначала дружили, а потом разосрались). Когда происходила зачистка Хайленда после последнего восстания против англичан, горные кланы должны были принести присягу правительству, но старенький вождь поздно дочапал до Инвернесса и Макдональдам устроили показательные выступления. Для этого использовали клан Кэмпбэллов, который такими неблаговидными вещами занимался всю дорогу. Кэмпбэллы пришли в гости, ели-пили, а потом бац – и ночью всех зарезали. Это самый свинский поступок за всю историю Шотландии. А Кэмпбеллы, между тем, тоже вполне живы-здоровы. Они сейчас герцоги Аргайла.
Об этом эпизоде есть отличная книга, Сьюзен Флетчер “Колдунья”. Правда, ее обложка способна отпугнуть самых стойких. Однако, под похабной обложкой скрывается хороший исторический роман.
Бабушка и мать Корраг называли колдуньями за то, что жили не как все и разбирались в травах. Одну утопили , другую повесили. Корраг была обречена на одинокую жизнь изгоя. Но нашлось место, откуда её не гнали и не называли ведьмой – Гленко, где обитал разбойничий клан Макдональд.
Историю истребления МакДональдов и историю своей жизни Корраг рассказывает ирландскому священнику, навещающему её в тюрьме, чтобы узнать правду о резне.
Очень красивая и очень грустная вещь. Невзирая на жестокость её жизни, Корраг сохранила любовь ко всему живому, наслаждаясь каждым днем и любыми явлениями природы, любой мелочью, будь то голубая скорлупка птичьего яйца или паучки , запутавшиеся в волосах. В книге совершенно чудесные описания природы, а уж описания Гленко и Роаннах Мора такие, что хочется собраться и ехать прям щас.
Пойду качать книгу, что ли) Ну и конечно, Шотландия – в моих планах па-любэ.
